Wakizashi - Mumei(No Signature) - Aikuchi/Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Kyoto 36349

This piece is categorized in the wakizashi genre, but was in fact made as a larger sized tanto.

This is a very sound sword as it is extremely well preserved, sharpened throughout, and has zero defects such as flaws, rust, or chips. Jigane is hada with some mokume mixed in with itame, and yubarishi can also be seen. Hamon is a very distinctive irregular gunome with well-tightened nie.

Based on its appearance and the condition of its nakago, we can assume that it was made in the early to mid-Edo period. Koshirae are equipped with shirasaya and aikuchi style.

The koshirae as a whole has a very aged look, and all the metal fittings are from that period. The tsuka is in the dashizame style with the sharkskin exposed. The scabbard is equipped with kozuka. This O-tanto is a great sale special, as it is equipped with both shirasaya and aikuchi koshirae, and is in very good condition and immaculate condition.
