Katana - Mumei(No Signature) - NBTHK Certificate(Munekage) - Uchigatana Koshirae - Suriage Nakago - Shinto Era

This unsigned sword is a fine example of a sword that has been certified as a preserved sword by the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords as the work of Takada Munekage. Takada Munekage was a swordsmith active between the Koto and Shinto periods and served Otomo Yoshimune, a feudal lord in the province of Bungo. The swords of the Takasa school are known for their practicality and reputation as swords that do not break, do not bend, and cut well.

This sword is in excellent condition with no fatal flaws, although there are some subtle scratches. The slightly larger tip is very dynamic. The hada is Koitame, and the hamon is based on suguha, with a beautiful nie mixture of chojimidare and gunome.

As for the fittings, the tsuba, fuchi-gashira, and menuki fittings are antique. The scabbard and tsuka wood were made in modern day. This is a very typical-looking sword, not only for appreciation but also practical enough to be used as an actual sword for sword drawing or iai sword. It comes with a certificate of authenticity from the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, but is priced very affordably, making it a highly recommended piece.
