Tanto - Kanehiro - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Tanto/Shirasaya Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Gendai Era - Akita 20732

This tanto has an excellent sharpening and preservation of the sword blade, which is virtually intact. It has a well-packed itame hada with notare hamon, and gnome nie is visible in various places. The boshi is large and rounded back, a simple yet very massive tanto.

The name Kanehiro is engraved on the nakago, and the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has deemed this tanto worthy of preservation to posterity and has certified it as a Hozon Token. A certificate of authenticity is also included. Kanehiro, who lived in Yokote, Akita Prefecture, was a swordsmith from the Yokote forge town, and is said to have made swords from around 1868 to the early Meiji period. The exterior is equipped with both koshirae for tanto and shirasaya. This piece was made in February 1869.

The koshirae is in good condition and all metal fittings are of the period. The kozuka is equipped with a good quality kanshitsu lacquered scabbard. This is a great piece for those who want to enjoy Japanese swords at an affordable price despite its high value.
