A very well-preserved Koto-period Shobu-dukuri wakizashi has just arrived. Shobu-zukuri, so called because of its resemblance to the leaves of the shobu (Japanese iris), were mostly made in the mid to late Muromachi period. Its most popular feature is the absence of yokote on the blade and the shinogi-sujii extending all the way to the kissaki.

This piece has a very well-packed itame with a notare-like suguha hamon. The ha is spotted in places with gnome and choji nie, which is very interesting. The preservation is very good, the sword is very clean, and it is assumed that it has been carefully stored for a long time. There is a single forging flaw that appears about 8 cm from the moto on the sashiura side, but this does not detract greatly from the beauty of the piece. It is also equipped with an uchigatana koshirae. The metal fittings used for it are original to the period, with a crane and turtle motif on the fuchi-kashira and a fan on the menuki, making it very auspicious. This uchikatana koshirae is also equipped with a kozuka. The kozuka's design is decorated with auspicious peonies, lions, and butterflies.
