The Story

Kunimitsu was a master craftsman who lived in present-day Wakayama Prefecture and was the designated smith for the Kishu Tokugawa family. The few surviving pieces with his inscription were commissioned by Kishu Tokugawa. This sword is one of the few swords with his inscription and is considered valuable in the Hozon grade swords by NBTHK's appraisal. The sword has been kept in very good condition, with no major flaws or rust, but there is a small scratch around 17 cm from the hamachi of the sashiomote. There is a mokume-like pattern mixed in with the hada of itame. The hamon of suguha with tightened nie is universally beautiful and reminiscent of Koto's work. There are traces of rust on the nakago, which were removed in later years. Considering its length, width, and thickness, it can be recommended as a sword for batto and test cutting. This is a very affordable price for a great sword with a certificate of authenticity, so don't delay.
