Katana - Mumei(No Signature) - NBTHK Certificate(Fujishima) - Uchigatana/Shirasaya Koshirae - Suriage Nakago - Koto Era

This is an unsigned suriage sword of 2 shaku 2 sun in length, and the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has authenticated this sword as the work of Fujishima. Fujishima is the name of a school of swordsmiths, of which Fujishima Tomoshige was the founder. Fujishima Tomoshige was a disciple of Rai Kunitoshi of Yamashiro, who moved to Kaga Province in the late Kamakura period (1185-1333). The Fujishima school flourished greatly during the Muromachi period (1336-1573), and its style includes such diverse elements as Yamashiro-den, Yamato-den, and Bizen-den.

This sword is slightly koshizori, and considering the position of the holes for the mekugi, we assume that it was originally a tachi sword. The jitetsu is a very dense itame with mokume mixed in some places and is clearly visible . The hamon is a niedeki kogunome, and a thin suguha can also be seen. Yo and Sunagashi are also visible. The boshi is a kaen style komaru. The tip of the nakago is cut in a straight line, and it can be imagined that the shape of the sword was an elegant Kyoto-style sword before the suriage was applied.

The sword is in good condition considering its age, but there is a 2mm fukure at a point about 26cm from the hamachi. This is a graceful sword and well preserved, but the price is set at a very affordable price due to this fukure.

The uchigatana is equipped with a plain copper tsuba, a fuchigashira with a bamboo motif. The menuki are a tiger design. The silk tsuka-ito has been rewrapped in modern times. The scabbard has a unique knurling process reminiscent of a bamboo grove, and is two-tone glossy lacquered and matted. The kojiri is reinforced with metal fittings and a plain kojiri is also attached.
