Master swordsmith Kanemasa, whose real name is Masami Ohno, was born in 1923. He is a very famous master swordsmith who is the leader of the Shiho-zume forging method, which is said to be the most difficult of all sword forging methods. The Shiho-zume method has not been used since Minamoto no Kiyomaro, but Kanemasa has boldly taken up the challenge and this sword is a masterpiece made in the Shiho-zume method.

The shape of this sword is thick, wide, and bold. The sword is forged in a method known as the Shiho-zume, and the jitetsu is itame. The hamon is beautiful with chojoashi on the midare. The fuchigashira, tsuba, and kojiri patterns are inlaid with gold and silver cherry blossoms and arabesques.

Kanemasa was famous as a swordsmith who never sold a sword to a customer he did not like. Recognized as a Gifu Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Asset.
